Everyone has a story. Here’s mine.
I'm an experienced clinical psychologist known for my work at the intersections of psychology, climate change, and the natural world. Based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and providing therapy locally and for clients around the country, I've been helping people find their way through challenges to a better place for over two decades. In 2022, acting on my conviction about the importance of utilizing my profession to face climate change head on, I transformed the primary focus of my work into helping people navigate the most pressing problem of our time, and I expanded my work to include climate workshops, trainings, and talks.
The heart of my approach is grounded in what it means to embrace our humanity. Recognized in climate psychology as a part of the American Psychological Association's Climate Change Advisory Group and as a former member of the executive committee of Climate Psychology Alliance of North America, and with a background as an award-winning grassroots environmental leader, I am a trusted, understanding, and knowledgeable voice. In addition to training other therapists internationally on working with climate change, I give educational and motivational talks and trainings for nonprofits, academic institutions, and the public, and offer consultation on climate emotions and mental health. I also offer workshops to help organizations, groups, and individuals address their feelings about climate and environmental change so that they can work and live from a position of supportive connection with self, other, and nature. Clinically, I'm experienced in working with environmental students and faculty, as well as scientists, around the U.S., in addition to the general public.
My work is trauma-informed and is based in climate science, aligned with climate justice, and guided by emotional depth and meaning-making. I'm passionate about increasing awareness of the connections between our thoughts, feelings, and actions, as well as about the human capacity for psychological growth, as we understand and build our own stories in the midst of changing times.
