although you might be an environmentalist, a scientist, or an activist,
you don't have to be one to seek therapy for climate-related feelings.
Numbness, anxiety, grief, fear, disconnection, trauma, sadness, anger--the climate crisis is having an impact on human mental health and emotional wellbeing. You might be addressing it head-on in your work or activism, or maybe you're feeling the personal effects of it. Perhaps you're stressed about how to relate to family members about climate change, or feeling worried about how your life is being, or will be, affected. There are all kinds of ways we're emotionally affected by climate change.
Whatever you're feeling, climate-conscious therapy provides space to talk about it in a way that's nonjudgmental, that doesn't overpathologize, and that helps you get unstuck if you're feeling overwhelmed. I'll provide an empathic, compassionate space for your eco-distress to be heard and deeply understood, as well as support and guidance to process and manage what can be difficult and powerful emotions. Talking with someone trained in working in this challenging area can also help you feel supported to move forward meaningfully and with purpose.
Climate-related concerns don't always exist in a vacuum--they're often just part of what you're dealing with in life. You may choose to have them be the sole focus of therapy, or you might want therapy for other things too. Either way, I bring my climate-conscious lens to both situations when needed.
